Objectives

The aim of this 5-day training is to provide participants with the knowledge, skills, and confidence required to act in the dynamic and demanding role of a ship superintendent. Designed to meet the requirements of the ISM Code (MSC-MEPC.7/Circ.8), this comprehensive course provides a thorough introduction to modern ship management, ensuring participants gain a deep understanding of the superintendent’s responsibilities and the tools needed to work in accordance with company’s Safety Management System (SMS).

Whether transitioning from ship to shore or enhancing existing skills, participants will leave with the proficiency to manage vessels efficiently, support crews, and contribute meaningfully to their organization.

Sea-going experience as an officer/engineer or shore experience in ship management/operation

This course offers an in-depth exploration of the superintendent’s role, covering day-to-day operations such as ship inspections, supply chain management (spares, stores, and services), and cost control, alongside critical processes like emergency response and incident handling. 
Participants will gain insight into how shipping company functions interrelate and how to collaborate with stakeholders, from crew members to regulatory bodies, to maintain operational excellence.
Structured as an interactive and modular program, the course blends theoretical knowledge with practical case studies, encouraging participants to share their experiences and ideas. This creates a rich, collaborative learning environment tailored to individual strengths and challenges. Topics such as cyber security, decarbonization, and the use of cutting-edge software tools reflect the evolving demands of the maritime industry, preparing superintendents for both current and future challenges.
