Power Failure Investigations in T&D Systems training course
Three-day training course covering the knowledge, tools and methods needed for power failure investigation.
When a fault occurs in a critical part of a public or industrial network, it is vital that the root cause is traced. Failure investigations are not just stand-alone activities but are part of the total asset management process.
The purpose of power failure investigations is to prevent recurrence and resolve potential issues of liability as well as the reduction in asset reliability. Failure investigations provide essential information for risk assessments and results are crucial to improve business processes, enabling efforts to effectively target on the proces(ses) that need improvement, whether engineering, equipment specification, design, manufacturing, transportation, testing, installation, maintenance, replacement or operation.
The course will guide participants through the principles of the power failure investigation methodology. Besides theory, the course is embedded in many interactive sessions providing hands-on experience in the form of group discussions, exercises and case studies. As the focus of the course is on the investigation process, the technical depth will be tailored to the participants.
Using real examples of failures, you will be taken on a journey of a power failure investigator from start to end. Stopping at each relevant station of the investigation, e.g. request intake, first inspection and interview, dissection, information analysis, root cause analysis, reporting and follow up of recommendations.
Subjects:
- Introduction to the failure investigation process
- Code of conduct
- Execution and preparation of field visits
- Information collection
- FMEA and equipment aging mechanisms
- Analysis methods, like fault tree analysis, event tree analysis and reliability block diagram analysis etc.
- Root cause analysis
- Hypotheses and conclusions
Result:
After this course you will have gained valuable knowledge about the applicable procedures and principles of power failure investigation methods. This will enable you to understand the failure investigation process, access the quality and structure of an investigation, recognise potential investigation omissions and participate in failure investigations yourself.
Target Audience:
Engineers, specialists and managers working in T&D operations, planning, maintenance and asset management.
Dubai course-specific information
In addition to the Arnhem course faults and failure investigations in generation plants will be treated as well. The target audience is: Engineers, specialists and managers working in T&D, Power Generation (conventional and renewables), Large Industries planning, operations, maintenance and asset management.
