OWT-15 Structural Analysis of floating offshore wind foundation in Time domain

This course focuses on structural analysis and strength assessment of floating offshore wind (FOW) foundation in time domain.

Description:

This course focuses on how to complete strength analysis and strength assessment of FOWT foundation using SESAM software package. The following modules will be used.

GeniE –Preparing global FOWT foundation model file for hydro dynamic analysis and sub-model for critical connection.

Sestra - Execute dynamic time domain analysis-ULS.

Xtract - Result postprocess of yielding evaluation and review strength results

PULS - Buckling check for structural component.

SESAM Core - Execute time domain fatigue assessment and buckling check.

Submod - Interpolate the displacements from the global model and transfer to sub- model.

Sesam Wind Manager (SWIM) - Perform time domain fatigue analyses for FOWT

Learning objectives:

The following topics will be covered:

  • Perform time domain structural FE analysis using Sestra
  • Strength evaluation of yielding and buckling using Xtract
  • Plate code check with PULS in GeniE
  • Export global screening input file in GeniE
  • Time domain fatigue Screening using SESAM Core
  • Create Sub model and refine mesh in GeniE
  • Extract boundaries of submodel from global result by Submod
  • Define hot spot and export JSON file for Sesam Core in GeniE
  • Set up and execute time domain fatigue analyses with SWIM
  • Export capacity model from GeniE based on DNV RP-C201 and perform ULS in Sesam Core

Target group:

Structural engineers involved in design, analysis, or verification of floating offshore wind foundation.

Duration:

2 days

Prerequisite:

Previous experience in the use of Sesam is required. Basic knowledge in FE analysis is required.
