Decarbonizing Shipping (online training)

Online blended learning training course that gives an overview of the realistic options that exist to meet the 2050 targets for CO2 reduction.

Objectives

You will acquire a solid understanding of all the options to prepare for low-carbon and no-carbon shipping, addressing technical and operational levers. After the course, you will be empowered to make the right decisions based on realistic assessments of your roadmap towards decarbonizing shipping.

Entrance requirements

Who should attend:

Shipping Companies: Management: Technical Director; Inspections: Superintendent, Fleet Manager; Chief Operating Officer, Chief Engineer. On Board Personnel: Masters, Nautical Officers

Duration: 2 days

With the IMO 2030 and 2050 targets for CO2 reduction, and rising fuel prices in the wake of the 2020 Global sulphur cap, decarbonization is at the top of the agenda for shipping worldwide. Today’s designs will have to meet the 2050 targets at the end of their life cycle. It is therefore high time to explore what realistic options exist and prepare for an energy efficient future.

This 2-day comprehensive blended course is composed of one day classroom training (or two half days if planned as a virtual classroom) with an expert trainer and the equivalent of one day (7 hours) digital self-study modules. These comprise 16 assorted video lectures recorded by experts in the field and further reading resources to give even deeper insight into selected technologies and issues.

The course covers options in no/low carbon fuels, sustainable propulsion (mainly wind assisted propulsion systems), hydrodynamics, machinery and nautical operation with critical assessment and practical implications. Video lectures cover topics such as wind-assisted propulsion systems, trim optimisation, simulation-driven design, hull cleaning options, antifouling and many more.

With a high emphasis on active participation from the attendees, this course will lead to a better understanding of where we are now and where we are heading in decarbonizing shipping.

The course focuses on:

  • Frameworks (EEDI, EEOI, EEXI, SEEMP, etc)
  • Fuels and Fuel Converters (post-2020 options)
  • Sustainable propulsion & Energy efficiency
  • Fuel efficient operation
