As the global community intensifies efforts to combat climate change, the European Union has taken a significant step by introducing the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).
This new regulation, part of the EU's ambitious & Fit for 55' package, aims to address carbon leakage and level the playing field for industries that face strict emission reduction targets within the EU. Adopted in early 2023, CBAM will impact non-EU based producers in hard-to-abate sectors – iron and steel, aluminium, cement, fertilizers, hydrogen and electricity – which export to the EU, and EU based importers of these products.
Producers will have to report embedded emissions of their products starting from 1 October 2023 and pay a carbon tax associated with those emissions from 2026, so businesses need to start preparing now.
During this webinar our DNV experts discuss how businesses can prepare for the introduction of CBAM with:
- David Boublil, Deputy Head of Unit DG Taxation & Customs Union at the European Commission
- Sandro Starita, Director Sustainability at European Aluminium
- Serkan Ürkmez, Management System Director at Borçelik
