Efficient explosion modelling
The Explosions add-on brings more detailed and extensive consideration of explosion consequences in comparison to the standard versions of Phast and Safeti.
It has advanced vapour cloud explosion modelling capability that considers flammable cloud interaction with congested regions within process plants in all three dimensions (3D). This allows for a more realistic consideration of the explosion hazards.
Inherent safe design
A key feature of this add-on is the ability to plot combined effect contours from multiple scenarios. This makes it easier to visualise, communicate and interrogate results associated with a range of hazards.
Combined effect contours can be plotted for overpressure, impulse, thermal radiation and toxic concentrations, facilitating the layout and design of equipment and buildings.
Occupied buildings assessment
The Explosions add-on uses both the Baker-Strehlow-Tang (BST) and Multi-Energy (ME) explosion models to provide options for modelling vapour cloud explosion hazards.
The add-on allows for the design of buildings in accordance with guidance such as Chemical Industries Association (CIA) and API Recommended Practices 752 and 753.
Risk-based design
The Safeti Explosions add-on allows you to define building categories with different vulnerabilities, providing a more accurate QRA.
In addition to standard risk results, the add-on provides exceedance curves and risk effect contours to support risk-based decision-making.
Pricing and licensing
Individual
Plans are available for local installation on your PC or pre-installed virtual machine. Access is available from 1 day to 1 year for one single user.
This is an add-on module and requires a valid version of Phast or Safeti.
Network (Concurrent)
Recommended when there is need for multiple users at the same time.
Access for multiple simultaneous users where the product license is installed on a network server and software installation on the individual user's machine.
This is an add-on module and requires a valid version of Phast or Safeti.
Frequently asked questions
Answer |

AnswerPhast and Safeti Explosions extension is able to provide a very quick estimate of potential explosion scenarios and its effects. It is particularly useful for Fire and Explosion Risk Assessments (FERAs) and Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRAs), given the large number of scenarios required to be modelled. It is also useful for general facility siting and building design. Exsim, on the other hand, provides a more thorough account of physical geometries/obstacles by using computation fluid dynamics (CFD) in the explosion assessment, making it used more for very detailed design work (e.g. layout of equipment within a congested region, blast wall design, structural response/design).

Answer |

AnswerThe Explosion extension do not model escalation effects. The Explosions extension can only be used for offshore cases with simple geometry when dispersion can be reasonably predicted by the software and explosion strength can be estimated using GAMES correlation or supplied by the user. Even so, the predicted results of an explosion have no consideration of shielding by blast walls and other obstructions. |
Answer |
---|
AnswerThe Explosions extension is required to produce impulse information from explosion scenarios. In the process industry, both impulse and overpressure are typically used in building design. |
