Virtual demo series: Introduction to Sesam for non-linear analysis

Watch the recordings to gain insights into progressive collapse analysis software for pushover and accidental analysis – Sesam for non-linear analysis

Offshore jacket structures have been used for building oil and gas infrastructure for decades. The existing jackets are typically designed for a life of around 20 years. Improvements in oil recovery from several fields have increased the interest in using these structures well beyond their initial design life. Even though large re-constructions, repairs, and inspections have been performed, using existing installations beyond their design life will, in many cases, be economically preferable.  Recently, jacket type of structures are used as foundations for wind turbines.  For these, non-linear boat impact analysis are important and push over analysis may be needed to optimize the design.

In this recorded three-part demo series you will get insights into:

  • Basics to pushover analysis
  • How to include deformations and damages to members
  • Strategies to perform Non-linear Analysis
  • Executing non-linear analysis and investigating the results

Part 1: Introduction to non-linear analysis

  1. Create a model in Sesam GeniE
  2. Run non-linear analysis in Sesam Usfos
  3. Understand and inspect non-linear results

Part 2: Introduction to collapse analysis of jacket structures

  1. Create and execute collapse analysis using Sesam GeniE/Usfos
  2. Add deformations and damaged members
  3. Add ductility and fracture criterion
  4. Execute joint code check analysis

Part 3: Introduction to boat/ship impact analysis and dynamic time domain analysis.

  1. Create boat impact inputs and execute boat impact analysis
  2. Execute multiple boat impact analysis
  3. Perform a dropped object analysis

The presentations and demonstrations are given by Abin Thomas, Principal Engineer. He has been working in the Design and fabrication of Offshore platforms since 2007, and holds a Master’s degree in Structural Engineering and is an expert in the field of Finite Element and Non-linear Analysis of structures.
