Hydrodynamic analysis
With growing computer power and growing knowledge there is an increasing demand for more advanced hydrodynamic computations. The webinar will present the more advanced methods that are available within Sesam.
The two main classes of advanced analysis are second-order frequency domain analysis and non-linear time domain analysis. The first addresses the uncertainty that is always present for floating offshore structures that in most cases have natural periods outside the range of periods where most of the wave energy is. The second addresses many different challenges like large waves, shallow water and changes in waterplane area.
In the webinar we will show an overview of the different options and present some results illustrating the importance of non-linear effects.
Agenda/topics of the webinar:
- Second-order analysis
- Shallow water
- Non-linear restoring and the Mathieu effect
- Added resistance
- The moonpool and narrow gap problem
- Irregular frequencies
- Wave/current interaction
Learning objectives:
In the webinar the participant should learn about the importance of non-linear hydrodynamics and the available hydrodynamic analysis tools for this in the Sesam system.
About speaker Torgeir Vada:
Torgeir has a PhD in Hydrodynamics from the University of Oslo in 1985. He has been working in DNV/DNV GL since then and with Sesam since 1997, first as a developer and then in various line manager positions. He currently holds a position as Product Manager for Floating structures.
