Synergi Electric - 8760 Simulation

Time series analysis of distribution system models

What is 8760 analysis?

8760 analysis in Synergi Electric is a progression from running peak load analysis on the distribution system. As technology on the distribution system becomes more advanced, interactions between different types of load and generation become more complex. This complexity requires that more comprehensive analysis is conducted in planning studies, so that all of the potential worst-case combinations of load and generation are properly accounted for. 8760 and time series analysis in Synergi allows for the use of load and generation profiles based on historical data collected by the utility.

How can DNV support 8760 analysis?

The method of time series modelling employed by the user depends on the best available data for creating load profiles and the user’s preference in terms of model maintenance and analysis methodology. For example, a simple approach is to import raw SCADA data from the feeder breaker and use Synergi Electric’s built-in tools to process that into characteristic profiles. A more complex process would be to develop customer class profiles from AMI data tagged with customer type, and then applying these load profiles to customers in the Synergi Electric model. Each method entails a different process for importing load profiles to the Synergi Electric model. DNV can support our clients in developing the most efficient processes to format the load profile data and import it to Synergi Electric, either as an automated process or on demand when required by the user.

Key benefits of time series analysis

  • Ensures that all critical combinations of load and generation are analyzed.
  • Customer class profiles can provide more granularity on the time-varying use of power at different locations on the circuit.
  • Allows for load behavior to remain constant during addition of generation in future years.
