Systematic approach to reducing overall risk

Risk Based Inspection (RBI) is a systematic methodology used to prioritize inspection activities based on the level of risk associated with different equipment. By focusing inspection resources on high-risk components, safety-critical equipment receive the necessary attention, ensuring the safety and reliability of the facility while minimizing costs by reducing unplanned outages and low-value inspections.

RBI software

Our RBI solution has been in use in the industry and validated for over 30 years. It incorporates industry-recognized methodologies, such as API 580, API 581, and DNV-RP-G101, to help organizations implement and manage risk-based inspection programs effectively. It serves as a comprehensive tool for enterprise-level risk management.

DNV's RBI tools enable users to achieve a positive return on investment. These tools offer both both qualitative and quantitative analysis capabilities, including the ability to calculate detailed consequences of failure, probabilities of failure, financial risks and cost benefits.

How can we support various industries?

RBI software for onshore facilities

A solution suitable for onshore process plants. RBI software for onshore facilities implements the API 580 / API 581 RBI methodology with qualitative and quantitative approaches. The methodology applies to various types of vessels (separators, columns, drums, storage tanks etc.), pipes and pressure relief devices.

RBI software for offshore facilities

A solution suitable for offshore topside facilities. RBI software for offshore facilities implements the DNV-RP-G101 methodology for topside process assets on offshore structures such as jacket platforms and FPSOs. It is a multi-level approach (from qualitative to quantitative) and consistent with API 580.

RBI software for power plants

A solution suitable for the power industry. RBI software for power plants software implements the API 580/ 581 methodology for conventional thermal power plants. It provides extensions to allow modelling of the specific power plant asset hierarchy and degradation mechanisms such as creep and fatigue.

RBI software for atmospheric storage tanks

A solution suitable for storage facilities. RBI software for atmospheric storage tanks (AST) software has standard RBI modules supporting API 581 and EEMUA 159 methodologies. Calculations include consequence of failure, probability of failure, financial risk, and inspection optimization with quantitative modules.

Are you looking for a tailored solution for your needs?

The RBI Bespoke module is configurable and allows the implementation of RBI methods that do not follow industry standards. This module allows you to implement bespoke models for the consequence of failure, probability of failure, risk matrix or inspection planning rules and recommendation library.

RBI enabled the application of the risk-based inspection approach to our refining and chemical facilities.
