Load measurements for wind turbines
Reducing risk and extending lifetimes.
Modern wind turbine generators are continuously increasing in size and rated capacity. Larger turbines, slimmer designs and new components help to reduce loads, but also place greater demands on simulation models. As such the importance of measuring mechanical turbine loads has increased, not only to validate simulation models but also as a part of type certification.
Our skilled engineers perform load measurements according to the IEC TS 61400-13 standard, the DNV Renewables Guideline for the Certification of Wind Turbines, and any other standards or guidelines that your specific measuring needs require.
Included in all of our measurement programmes is a database that details a turbine’s behaviour in specific situations. Additionally, a met mast is used to collect meteorological data for reference.
Interpretation of this data enables optimisations to the turbine design, which results in an improved performance and a reduced risk of failure.
Accredited expertise
We are fully ISO 17025 accredited, and our experts have built significant experience by working on turbines from 500 Watt to the multi-megawatt class. This allows us to develop customised measurement programmes tailored to your needs. Such programmes have included cooling systems, main frames, yaw systems, and towers. Components such as rotor bolts can also be tested, either on-site or at one of our laboratories.
Additionally, we support you with:
- Developing internal engineering expertise
- Product improvement
- Quality assurance
- Failure analysis
