IDIS certification tests

DNV helps you prove the quality of your smart meter with IDIS certification tests.

The benefits of using the IDIS companion specification

The IDIS (Interoperability Device Interface Specifications) companion specification ensures interoperability and reduces risk and cost. It allows customization of smart meter devices based on the IEC 62056 DLMS/COSEM standards.

The IDIS companion specification

The IDIS companion specification has evolved through three baseline packages that support different use cases and communication technologies. In November 2021, the IDIS association merged with the DLMS user association to strengthen interoperability and open standards, and to expand the certification program for heat, water and gas smart metering.

IDIS Package 3 certifications are currently integrated into the DLMS UA qualification process. The DNV test laboratory in Arnhem, the Netherlands is the only accredited lab to execute the IDIS certification tests.

The IDIS Package 2 certifications will cease by the end of 2024. Only recertifications are possible for IDIS Package 1 and IDIS Package 2.

The IDIS product compliance testing process

The IDIS association offers a product compliance testing process via an independent facility, the accredited lab, where devices are tested and certified for the relevant baseline IDIS specification.

The IDIS certification tests give utilities the confidence that multiple vendors are qualified and interoperable, and the test reports identify the type, extensions and options of the devices.

Support to reach IDIS Certification

Since partnering with the IDIS association, DNV has already performed several IDIS Package 2 conformance and final interoperability testing, resulting in more than 100 IDIS certificates. This gives DNV an intimate understanding of the specifications, and the challenges in meeting the requirements. Before executing any official IDIS certification test, we recommend to order a pre-certification test, with the support of one of our expert engineers.
