BRCGS Global Standard Plant-Based

Build trust in plant-based food production by improving your management system approach.

The BRCGS Global Standard Plant-Based certification programme is a science-based management system approach. The standard provides a framework for manufacturers producing vegetarian and vegan products and includes operational criteria to ensures that plant-based products are free of animal origin material.

What is the standard

The standard has been developed in response to a shift in consumer purchasing behaviour resulting in a growing demand for plant-based food.

The plant-based certification program is based on a comprehensive management system approach. It provides  a structured framework for manufacturers producing plant-based food products. The BRCGS Global Standard Plant-Based includes operational criteria required to ensure that plant-based products are free of material of animal origin.  It can be applied as a simple add-on to any GFSI benchmarked Food Standard or Global Markets Program (intermediate level).

Benefits of becoming certified

Even the most informed consumer may unknowingly consume animal products or ingredients because they are not able to correctly identify animal-containing ingredients based on product labels alone. With the plant-based trademark on the packaging, consumers can more easily make informed choices.

Certification to BRCGS Global Standard Plant-Based by an independent third-party enables:

  • Use a globally recognised and trusted on-pack trademark on your products
  • Protect your company reputation, brand and image
  • Access a rapidly growing market with certification recognised by retailers and others
  • Differentiate your brand and remain competitive in growing market
