The Blue Economy

Sustainable industry trajectories in the Blue Economy will rely on robust scientific knowledge, reliable data, an on greater understanding of the ocean system and potential impacts of ocean-related activities.

We contribute towards building knowledge through our foresight activities that project the development of Ocean industries towards 2050 in light of major transformations and the need to balance productivity with protection of ocean health and other sustainability concerns.

We use our system dynamics simulation model mirroring key supply-demand relationships in the Blue Economy to forecast the growth of ocean-based industries. This takes into consideration interlinkages between industries as well as barriers to productivity represented by the global ocean health challenges.
