Renewables

Programme and challenges

Programme
The Renewables Programme has a global reach and offices in three countries. In the UK where the focus is on wind energy and in Spain where solar is the main topic. The programme is managed from Denmark.

Challenges
To support the renewables industry in the continuous drive to lower the cost of energy, the renewables programme focuses on the topics that in the medium-term will help do that. Currently we are looking at optimizing the output and wear and tear of wind farms through wind farm modelling and control, we are looking at getting the most accurate pre-construction estimates of the available energy through our work on wind-farm scale blockage, and we are trying to significantly decrease the computational time when doing advanced flow modelling in the complex terrain by the use of machine learning (ML). In the solar space we are looking at developing advanced models for the early prediction of faults in PV plants, this is done also using AI/ML.
