This report outlines the main outcomes of the AI work packages led by DNV in the Nordic Research Council-funded project DigiHeart. By combining two domains of artificial intelligence – computer vision and causal probabilistic modelling – we attempted to understand the link between mortality, shape of farmed salmon hearts, production parameters, and environmental conditions. Here, we explain the salmon heart morphometric models we developed using machine learning and computer vision techniques and the limitations in linking mortality to other factors.
