ESTEYCO named as the winner of the first Offshore Innovation Award at the 16th Hamburg Offshore Wind Conference
More efficient installation of offshore wind turbines with “Elisa” technology
HAMBURG, Germany, 4 April 2019
Erection tower replaces installation ship: thanks to “Elisa” technology, in the future, offshore wind turbines will be erected faster, more smoothly and more cost-effectively at greater water depths. The Spanish company Esteyco developed the tower, which is particularly durable and requires little maintenance due to the type of concrete used. Thanks to its own buoyancy, the wind turbine, which is completely pre-assembled in the port, can be moved to the installation site and installed without the need for heavy-duty cranes. A prototype of the “Elisa” tower was installed a few days ago in the port of Arinaga, Gran Canaria.
Esteyco won the first Offshore Innovation Award at the 16th Hamburg Offshore Wind Conference (3 April). A total of eight projects and companies from both Germany and abroad had applied. After presentations by the four short-listed nominees, participants in the 16th HOW voted live for the winner, who also received a prize of EUR 2,000 in addition to the honour of the nomination. For the third time in a row, the Renewable Energy Hamburg Cluster and the certification and consulting company DNV GL jointly organized this year’s HOW.
“We are delighted that Esteyco won with its ‘Elisa Technology’ and prevailed against a highly competitive field of top-class participants. It’s only with such innovations that the offshore wind industry will be able to develop further. This is why we will once again be presenting an Offshore Innovation Award at next year’s 17th Hamburg Offshore Wind Conference, to honour inventors in the industry,” says EEHH Managing Director Jan Rispens.
“When four top-class innovations from all over Europe present themselves at the Hamburg Offshore Wind Conference, all of which promise great progress for the global offshore wind market, this shows one thing above all else: the industry doesn’t stand still; it is clearly continuing to develop. Hamburg is the capital of the world’s wind industry and we congratulate Esteyco on winning the first Offshore Innovation Award against stiff competition,” said Marko Ibsch, Managing Director of DNV GL – Energy.
The evaluation criteria for pre-selection for the Offshore Innovation Award 2019 included practical utility and market success, the extent of (technical) innovation, the potential for significant cost reductions in offshore wind farms, the overall technical impression, and practical applicability.
