DNV GL’s Alistair Mackinnon receives RenewableUK award for “Excellence”

RenewableUK, the UK’s leading renewable energy trade association, marked its 36th Annual Conference by presenting a number of awards at its Gala Dinner. Over 400 renewable energy professionals saw awards handed out for “Breakthrough”, “Apprentice of the Year” and “Excellence”.

Alistair Mackinnon, Team Leader in Renewables Certification at DNV GL, was presented with the award for “Excellence” by RenewableUK. The award recognises Alistair’s work carried out over many years to progress small and medium wind standardisation and certification.

The focus of standardisation in the wind industry to date has been on large machines, but with the advent of significant niche markets for small wind turbines, new products have come forward over the last 5 years which pose different engineering challenges. Alistair’s work has made a significant contribution to the development of the third edition of IEC 61400-2 which is seen as a significant step-forward in the technical assurance of this technology. Upon receiving the award, Alistair expressed his “honour at being recognised by his peers within the industry”.
