DNV GL ECO Insight signs up as an Incentive Provider for Environmental Ship Index
DNV GL’s fleet performance management solution ECO Insight has become an incentive provider for the Environmental Ship Index (ESI), a voluntary system designed to improve the environmental performance of sea going vessels. DNV GL offers a 50 per cent discount on the subscription to its ECO Insight Environmental module.
“We are very pleased that the ideas underlying ESI are getting greater recognition from the industry and attracting a broader range of incentive providers,” says Fer van de Laar, Director of the World Ports Climate Initiative (WPCI). “Since it joined the ESI in February 2016, DNV GL ECO Insight has moved up to number 43 in the global ranking of incentive providers.”
“The ECO Insight portal provides ESI reports and scores as an automated service, without creating additional work for the crew or onshore staff and therefore helps shipping companies to more easily participate in projects such as the ESI. Supporting ESI customers in complying with reporting requirements both helps their bottom line and improves the shipping industry’s environmental footprint.” adds Torsten Büssow, Head of Fleet Performance Management at DNV GL – Maritime. ECO Insight can also help companies which have not yet achieved the targets they need to receive ESI incentives. “Environmental reporting should be an automatic delivery of any good fleet performance management solution,” he adds.
ECO Insight has attracted some 700 vessels since its launch in January 2015, making it the leading performance solution on the market. It helps shipping companies to understand and correct performance issues on vessels, including voyage performance, hull & propeller performance, engine & systems performance and fuel quality. It automatically produces environmental KPIs and reports from the system on emissions or disposals and supports schemes like ESI, Clean Cargo Working Group (CCWG), Clean Shipping Index (CSI) and the upcoming EU Monitoring, Reporting, Verification (MRV).
About the ESI
Managed by the World Port Climate Initiative the ESI gives a numerical representation of the environmental performance of ships regarding air pollutants and CO2. It also scores NOX and SOX emissions and gives a fixed bonus for documentation and management of energy efficiency. Currently, there are 46 IPs around the world, most of them are ports.
