DNV accredits 1,000th healthcare organization in the US, setting new standards in patient safety and public health

DNV is proud to announce a major milestone with its 1,000th healthcare accreditation in the United States. This achievement not only reflects DNV's growth and reach but reinforces its unique, value-driven approach to accreditation—one focused on continuous improvement, safety, and public health impact.

For patients, healthcare accreditation is a critical marker of the quality of care they receive. By meeting DNV's rigorous standards, organizations demonstrate their commitment to public safety and accountability, meeting the Conditions of Participation (CoPs) created by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), which qualify organizations to participate in the Medicare and Medicaid programs. DNV’s collaborative, supportive accreditation approach fosters continuous improvement and encourages innovative and tailored solutions.

This 1,000th accreditation milestone represents not only DNV's quantitative success but its strategic role in reshaping accreditation culture and its commitment to improving health outcomes. DNV’s scalable, flexible approach supports healthcare providers across demographics, demonstrating the company’s adaptability across healthcare settings. The milestone also reflects DNV’s commitment to recognizing the diverse patient populations and needs of organizations, understanding there is no one-size-fits-all approach to accreditation. DNV supports organizations to innovate proven solutions to modern challenges and encourages knowledge sharing. This sensitivity to diverse models reinforces the company’s understanding of local community impact, further strengthening client trust and collaboration.

Since entering the US healthcare market in 2008, DNV has grown to become the second-largest accrediting organization for acute, critical access, and psychiatric and behavioural hospitals. This rise reflects the trust organizations place in DNV’s approach—one that values operational harmony, year-round support, and staff development. Unlike traditional episodic inspections, DNV’s NIAHO® accreditation model, backed by ISO 9001 standards, promotes a continuous improvement model that engages staff at all levels to prioritize patient safety every day. DNV’s NIAHO® approach provides accreditation for a three-year period based on annual surveys of care quality. These collaborative surveys provide a framework for staff to understand what works in their organization, why it works, and how they can make further improvements every day.

“Our 1,000 th accreditation is more than a number; it symbolizes a shift towards a more empathetic and effective accreditation model in healthcare,” said Alex Imperial, VP & Regional Manager, Supply Chain and Product Assurance Americas at DNV. “We’ve focused on partnering with hospitals to drive quality and safety improvements that are impactful, sustainable, and in the public’s best interest. We knew that ISO 9001 was recognized globally across industries for providing a structure for constant progress and making all employees responsible for quality, and we wanted to bring that culture to healthcare,” added Kelly Proctor, President of Healthcare, Supply Chain and Product Assurance at DNV.
