RoRos

At your service through the entire RoRo lifecycle

Comprehensive offering

Whether it is deep-sea transport of new cars between continents or intra-regional shipping of loaded trailers, we have developed comprehensive products and services covering the entire RoRo lifecycle.

DNV has a leading position in the classification of Pure Car Carriers (PCCs) and Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTCs), with specialized rules and experience developed continuously since the delivery of the DNV-classed, purpose-built PCC Dyvi Anglia in 1965.

Improving vessel efficiency

We lead the field in technological innovations in the ferry segment. Our new rules for hull structure enable steel to be distributed optimally and the structure optimized based on precise load and capacity formulations, especially to prevent against buckling. This has the potential to reduce the steel costs in construction and overall weight, helping owners save money.

Supporting your decarbonization journey

LNG as fuel is increasingly being implemented in the ferry segment and the majority of newbuildings are being ordered with dual-fuel engines. DNV developed the world’s first class rules for ships using LNG as fuel in 2001 and has the majority of world LNG-fuelled fleet in class. We are also supporting owners and operators as they explore relevant future fuels such as ammonia and methanol.

Putting safety first

Our deep domain knowledge underpins our series of voluntary class notations supporting the design and operation of RoRo vessels. These standards range from battery safety, new fuels or the use of sails to additional safety measures to mitigate fire risks on RoRo decks.
