The objective of this service specification (SE) is to present a structured framework and methodology for the planning, preparation, and execution of risk-based verification and certification of CCUS facilities. The use of this document is intended to minimize risks for all stakeholders by defining verification activities and establishing principles for DNV certification that are relevant to the development, safe design, construction, commissioning, and operation of CCUS facilities.

The SE provides guidance on the preparation of a verification plan, using DNV's risk-differentiated levels of verification activities and detailed example scope of work tables. It also presents DNV's implementation of and reporting on the verification plan.

The SE introduces a tiered description of verification involvement, relevant to each phase of an asset's lifecycle. It facilitates the categorization of risk levels high, medium, and low, assisting in an evaluation of the risk level. The document supports the planning of verification through the development of a verification plan and describes DNV's documentation of the process throughout. The basic principles that must be met to obtain DNV certification of CCUS facilities are described.
