Energy Cyber Priority 2025: Addressing evolving risks, enabling transformation

Discover the latest trends in energy cybersecurity

DNV Cyber’s report Energy Cyber Priority 2025: Addressing evolving risk, enabling transformation, explores changing attitudes and approaches to cybersecurity in the energy industry.

The research draws on a survey of 375 energy professionals and in-depth interviews with industry leaders including E-REDES, Siemens Energy, Fortified Technologies, Fortum and DNV Cyber.

Are energy companies prepared to face the greatest risk to the industry today?

The research finds that the energy industry is taking cyber threats seriously, as two in three energy professionals (65%) say their leadership views cybersecurity as the greatest current risk to their business. Companies are making progress, including greater awareness, successes delivered by employee training, and growing attention paid to operational technology (OT) cybersecurity – securing the systems that manage, monitor, and automate physical assets.

Challenges remain, however, as the energy transition creates new attack surfaces and as threat actors become more sophisticated. From attacks on supply chains, recruitment of malicious insiders, and the use of AI, adversaries are upping their game and the energy industry needs to keep up.

The report focuses on five principal cybersecurity challenges for the energy industry together with recommendations for how to overcome them.
