Helping more than 10.000 Norwegian companies assess and strengthen their cybersecurity

To support Norwegian business better managing their cybersecurity, DNV Cyber and Gjensidige developed in 2022 an easy to use and free cybersecurity assessment tool.  Since launch,  more than 10.000 Norwegian companies have used the assessment and established an oversight over their cybersecurity posture which allowed them to take the right measures for mitigation.

Norwegian businesses are increasingly experiencing digital security threats. The resilience of companies to cyberattacks varies, and small and medium-sized enterprises can be particularly vulnerable to attacks and threats: For many organisations it can be difficult to get an overview of their security status, the extent to which they are protected against attacks and what needs to be done to boost their cybersecurity level. When seeking cyber insurance, many businesses can also experience problems obtaining the necessary documentation.

To further broaden the reach and use of the cybersecurity assessment tool, the ownership of the approach was handed over to Finans Norge Forsikringsdrift (FNF). FNF is Norways insurance companies’ industry association.

FNF continues to offer free access to the assessment tool and supports Norwegian businesses assessing their robustness against cyber-attacks by providing an overview of the necessary measures to increase information security. The assessment tool is based on the Norwegian National Security Authority's (NSM) basic principles for IT security and is organised in three assessment levels. The basic assessment is an evaluation of 15 fundamental technical security measures that NSM considers most urgent and that all organizations should have in place. These measures can prevent up to 80% of negative effects from cyber attacks. Please read more and test the tool on FNF its webpages.

DNV Cyber continues to operate the solution for FNF and ensures that the results from the assessment are stored and handled according to recognized security standards. The cybersecurity assessment tool is at the moment only available in Norwegian through FNF but translation to English is in the planning.
