DNV supports NV Energy’s Clean Energy Programs including EV Program Design & Implementation and EV Market Studies

DNV has implemented various clean energy programs for NV Energy since 2016.

About the customer

DNV has implemented NV Energy’s Solar Incentive and Distributed Generation programs since 2016. NV Energy is an investor-owned utility (IOU) which services more than 1.5 million residential and non-residential customers in Nevada. In 2018, DNV rapidly developed and launched four EVSE incentive programs for NV Energy within a two-month period (Multi-Family Charging, Workplace Charging, Fleet Electrification, and Custom Grant). In 2021 DNV began administering a Residential EV programs for EV charging equipment and a vehicle purchase program for lower-income customers.

DNV’s solution

We recently conducted research with 800 of NV Energy’s residential electric customers (with a focus on multi-family and low-income multi-family customers) and 100 of their commercial fleet customers to characterize current vehicle usage; assess current awareness and understanding of EVs; identify barriers to EV adoption, and identify the optimum combination of EV program services in which they would be interested in receiving from their utility. These results fed our agent-based EV adoption forecasting model, which we used to produce annual estimates of EV adoption at a granular geographic level (Census Block Group) for 2021-2030 given high, medium, and low adoption scenarios.

Benefits to the customer

NV Energy will use results of the research to support planning efforts related to necessary distribution grid infrastructure upgrades to support EV charging load. It also helped NV Energy to continue to advance transportation electrification efforts in Nevada and successfully seek an additional $100 million for greater EV and EVSE adoption in their service territory.
