The future of wind energy: Navigating the performance gap in Scandinavia’s onshore wind farms

A new week. A new call from a customer. The story is like the one presented by another customer last week. The customer is operating an onshore wind farm in northern Scandinavia, which has been underperforming compared to initial expectations. The wind farm has an unfavorable offtake agreement and suffers from increasing levels of curtailment. In addition, during the last few years wind conditions at the site have been below historical long-term wind averages, while turbine availability has been significantly lower than expected, all resulting in unsatisfactory profitability.

Improve asset lifecycle management by creating and integrating interoperable information models

The objective of this project was to model digital assets and demonstrate seamless collaboration between engineering and operator companies using standardized asset information models. The project aimed to automate data exchange, reduce manual input and enhance efficiency. The Proof of Concept delivered in December 2022 showcased significant improvements in reducing human errors and operational costs.

The power of biogas: Maneuvering increased competition for feedstock

The EU has set an annual biomethane production ambition of 35 billion cubic metres (bcm) by 2030. In alignment with this, the European Biogas Association expects a flow of EUR 27 billion into the biomethane sector by 2030 via private investments. The growth in biogas and biomethane production will, inevitably, put pressure on the feedstock supply chain, and in parallel, we will see a significant impact on the economics from regional and national developments in regulations and incentives.
