New legislation in Poland designed to bring stability and diversify energy sourcing is shaking the confidence of prosumers. In December 2021, the Polish Parliament voted to change the current status quo with the introduction of a new law to change the payment system currently enjoyed by the country’s prosumers (individuals who not only use but also generate electrical energy).
The new legislation promotes a net billing system over the current metering system. In this paper, the Polish energy market expert Jakub Pilc outlines the changes being implemented in the Polish energy market and explores the benefits and challenges and sets out the steps that micro and small businesses can take to continue their decarbonization journeys.
