The rules lay down technical and procedural requirements related to proper planning and execution of marine operations.

The Rules for Classification of High Speed, Light Craft and Naval Surface Craft lay down technical and procedural requirements related to obtaining and retaining a Class Certificate.

The Rules for other objects lay down technical and procedural requirements related to obtaining and retaining a Class Certificate for the object in question.

Standards for Certification

Standards for Certification are publications that contain principles, acceptance criteria and practical information related to DNV's consideration of objects, personnel, organisations, services and operations. Standards for Certification also apply as the basis for the issue of certificates and/or declarations that may not necessarily be related to classification.

Guidelines and Classification Notes

Publications that give practical information on classification of ships and other objects. Examples of design solutions, calculation methods, specifications of test procedures, as well as acceptable repair methods for some components are given as interpretations of the more general rule requirements.

DNV Offshore Codes

The DNV Offshore Codes consist of a 3-level hierarchy of documents: Offshore Service Specifications, Offshore Standards, and Recommended Practices.

DNV offers OREDA and ESReDA handbooks with key information and data for risk and reliability analysis.
